Remembering Elder Rose Point

Elder Rose Point at the 2012 First Nations Longhouse Graduation Celebration

All of us at the First Nations House of Learning were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Elder Norma Rose Point. Rose was an inspiration to generations and will not be forgotten by those of us who have been touched by her kindness, strength, and wisdom. Our hearts go out to the Point family during this time.

Rose has been an important part of the UBC community for many years and will be greatly missed by all of us. At every opportunity she spoke of the importance of education and inspired countless young people to reach their goals.

She provided her guidance to many committees and boards both at UBC and in the wider community and shared her teachings with children and youth through her involvement with many UBC summer camps. She taught us all to be proud of who we are and to support each other.

A prayer service will be held on Thursday, July 5 at 7:00 pm and a funeral service will be held Friday, July 6 at 10:00 am. The services will be take place in the new Musqueam Community Centre at 6777 Salish Drive.

The BC Flag at Main Mall and Agronomy Road on UBC’s Vancouver campus will be lowered on Friday, July 6, 2012 in Rose’s memory.
