September 1, 2016 – The wooden decking surrounding the Longhouse and the walkway to Xwi7xwa Library has reached the end of its lifespan and needs to be replaced. After considerable consultation with university staff, the original architects, Verna Kirkness, community members, and others, it has been decided that the pebbled surface of the Sty-Wet-Tan hall floor will replace the decking and walkway.
Renovation work will take place this September and will last 6 to 8 weeks. During this time, access to the Longhouse and Xwi7xwa Library will be significantly affected (see map below).
For the Longhouse, all south-side entry points, including the east-side one, will be closed during construction, leaving only the one south-side and the two north-side entries in use.
For Xwi7xwa Library, walk-up access will be limited to the stairway only. This means, unfortunately, that the library will lose wheelchair access during this period. If this affects you, please contact Xwi7xwa for document delivery or reference services: tel. 604-822-8738 or email Xwi7xwa.firstname.lastname@example.org.
While this will mean a period of inconvenience for everyone, once the new decking and walkway are in pace, we’re confident all will agree it will have been worth it. Until then, thank you for your understanding and patience.
