Great with kids? Excited about learning? Looking for some great volunteer experience? We are currently looking for volunteers!
The CEDAR Program is an educational outreach initiative run by UBC’s Faculties of Science and Land & Food Systems, developed for urban Aboriginal Youth in the Vancouver community.
We’re always looking for quality volunteers who can work with students, develop positive relationships with children and families, and assist with the development and execution of CEDAR programs.
No matter what your area of study/expertise, be it in Biology, Geography, History, or Art, the CEDAR program can use your skills. We seek to expose youth to members of the university community who are passionate about their work/studies, and the more diversity we have, the more potential we have to inspire students.
In addition to being a fun and dynamic way to spend your time, volunteering with CEDAR will provide you with:
- Unparalleled mentorship experience with a diverse group of youth
- A better understanding of the social and cultural issues that exist in Vancouver
- Community development opportunities at UBC and in East Vancouver
- Opportunities for advanced training (first aid, conflict resolution, FOODSAFE)
- An opportunity to affect change in the lives of urban Aboriginal students
Possible Responsibilities:
- Work with students during all activities as supervisors
- Tutor/help during experiments and workshops
- Supervise and lead groups during field trips
- Manage a group of 3 students
- Manage daily check-in and check-out of campers
- Going ahead of campers to camp activities, ensuring facilities and presenters are prepared
- Remaining after camp activities to ensure facilities are left in good order
The CEDAR program operates a two week day camp in the Summer (July 16th – 27th, 2012). We ask for a minimum commitment of five days over the two weeks.
If you are interested in volunteering with the CEDAR program, please fill out a Volunteer Application. Once your application is received, you will be contacted by one of the CEDAR coordinators regarding the next opportunity for interviews.
